Hello Everyone who is using this blog...which could be no one.
I wanted to tell you that I am helping Mayer with the basment area. In the next month we are going to do an intense cleaning of the space in order to make it more enjoyable and welcoming. We will also start adding more stuff in the space. Here is a list of what we are talking and brainstorming about. Please tell us what you think and if you want to help or be in charge of an aspect, like the garden, reading room etc.
Excuse the basic format.

Crew (month of September)
Move junk around make place presentable (move all of stuff to RM 5)
Build windows/work on sealing up the building.
DEEP clean everything (flr, walls, furniture)
Kill stink in basement
Clean up wiring so it’s not all over the place
Organize basement so we know what we have: lumber, paint, tools etc.
Knock down walls (as needed)
Help with lighting (with retro lamps)
Build shelves for dark room/storage stuff
Build shelves for reading room
Need larger grate by the rickety stairs
Reading Room/Conference Room
-raw table in center
-wood free standing shelves or dark bookcase on wall
-something for the windows?
-dry erase board/chalk board
-build brick wall with numerous shaped windows
-all couches in this room

Dark Room
-inventive tables made to attach to the wall
-windows are mainly already sealed (seal up last window and above dry wall)
-bring in the basics needs x1 for now and build buying later
-make dark room people invest? In chemicals etc…?

Game Room
-juke box (need music to get people downstairs and keep them down)
-round bar tables, all different sizes
-retro lamp wall or lamps at odd heights
-need lamps above pool table and ping pong table
-make glass to have ‘neon’ lights against wall (bar like lights)
-no couches, only interesting chairs and bar chairs
-board games
-bar
-cigarette machines that dispense (stamps, laundry detergent, odd things you might need)
-all windows have electronics
-2 computer/internet windows
-1 with 10 TV’s stacked inside
-1 with….?
-mirrors on a wall to create space (maybe a bunch of broken mirrors in an interesting arrangement, need to not feel so trapped in a basement)

Bathroom /sink
1 bathroom at the bottom of the back stairway (by the other tenant entrance) basic bathroom
1 up rickety stairs with one way mirrors
Sink comes out of pipe into large floor gutter

Winter Roof deck
-glass walls
-sealed in space
-plants on inside (that will get light and stay alive during the winter)
-round wood seating with flowers in the middle (so you can look out)

Café/office
-morning café with bagels, coffee etc
-little grocery to sell coffee, bagels, cheeses? Etc little place to shop at
-mini-mini mart?
-grow fresh basil, parsley etc in window to sell/eat?
-build café wall out of dark old stained wood (feeling of old antique, European café) and random/collage of excess brick etc.

Garden
-can a game go in the back where the small brick wall is? Chess?
-new gate/wall (brick with holes to see out of, but no glass?) (barbed wire in an artistic twist?)
-take doors off of the side area (doesn’t work)
-Asian lantern like (all around the seating area and in the shrubs, on light switch outside of the door)

IDEAS
Opera house
Use musical parts like the piano ‘inside’
Find a junkyard to get old piano parts (use piano keys as…?)
Find somewhere that is going out of business and buy cool stuff for cheap
Base fabrics off of details of 1886
Look into tile, tin for collage walls, ceilings etc.
Stones wall for garden? Iron to make…? (like the bed idea, or curtain rods or…? Find a more industrial magazine)
Re-like part of the floor in game room, by tenants –make something creative with tile collages…?)

Feel of Space
The space should feel retro and hip, but have an antique feeling. Everything will be old and a little bit diminished, but have a quality of history and beauty. I see a lot of dark wood, rusted posters, brick, old wood.
